![]() Pro has dedicated wireless backhaul that can significantly speed up wireless between two Eeros. If you go really advanced you can have them be the same name (like I do) but then you never know which one you're on which can cause more problems if you're doing it improperly.Īn eero (or other mesh system) attempts to fix some of these roaming issues by having the router and other extenders talk to each other to force the devices to go to the node which is best for them - maybe one node is overloaded with clients and another node is not and have virtually the same signal strength from where the device is. Handoff from one AP (access point) to another can be somewhat tricky though, as your devices may not necessarily be on the right one. Typically they will emit another SSID (something_ext) and you'll need to configure both of them in all of your devices. That way it will have good signal to the router (getting full speed from the extender to your router) and another full "sphere" of wifi around it. The idea with an extender is that you'd want to place it at roughly half the distance between your router and the 'dead zone'. So any particular device will make a "sphere" of wifi around it. An eero is a complete system though, not just an extender. It is certainly possible to get a wi-fi extender ( ) and just plug it in somewhere and have it work. It really depends what you want to do and how you want to do it. That also doesn't mean that I don't also see/understand the concern of people having major issues. I thankfully have not had many issues with Wi-Fi and don't really care that my iPhone downloads at 300, 500 or 750 or whatever it is fully capable of. Again, can be bad device (eero itself hardware/software), your ISP, etc. You will also see reports of some people having great success w/ 6Pro and others having terrible issues w/ 6Pro. Maybe it's the building you are in (materials and layout), device you are using, how many total devices you have in the house, and list goes on. ![]() Wi-Fi is a really wonderful tech, but many things affect its range, performance, etc. I try to hardwire anything that allows me to, so my computers, consoles, TV's, etc are all wired if possible so I can get best speeds and reliability. Sometime it only gets 200 down or maybe less. I have 1 gig service (fiber) and my iPhone 11 pro gets anywhere from 300-600 DL on the 6pro system. ![]()
