![]() ![]() It has a few secrets to go for, and it doesn't seem to have a lives system as such, at least not playing on Normal Mode. It really feels like a game designed specifically for me and my tastes. The level design is nice, and the enemies are very well designed, with some good ideas thrown in. The sword slash is short but precise, and feels good, most zakos go down in one hit. It's a bit more platforming focused (think Shatterhand or Mega Man) but it has the right elements. It's not ninja gaiden to the core, but never pretended to be that either. I've only just quickly gone through the first two stages (each stage is fairly substantial with both a boss and a miniboss), and so far I can already tell it's hitting all the right notes for me. The Master is one of the main characters of Cyber Shadow, being very important to the game's story.I think this game deserves its own thread now that it's out. She, as her name implies, was the leader of Shadow's clan and the daughter of Dr. Progen and a kunoichi, the Master was raised to inherit the leadership of her clan. As the center of the Five Element Ninja of her clan, she proved to be the most in tune with the Ethos, the cosmic realm from which all in the universe come and return, serving the Dragon as its emissary. Through her precocious wisdom she became the most skilled shinobi in the clan, and was the pride and joy of Dr. One day she came across Shadow after he made a daring attempt to reach the Sacred Torii of the clan's temple during a lunar eclipse. This surprised everyone in the clan, notably the Master herself, as she could easily tell that Shadow had an affinity for the power of the Dragon just as she did. Ignoring the protests of Apparitor, she took Shadow in to train him in the ways of Spirit Power usage. Under her guidance Shadow rose to become an immensely powerful and skillful ninja, much to the Master's delight. As time went on, the two grew closer, eventually falling in love with each other. This would culminate into her giving Shadow a family heirloom, her golden locket, and entrusting him with her feelings, swearing to each other that no matter what the future held, their bond would keep them together in life and in death. The Master in the past above some trainees, as she appears during the credits. One day during a mission, the Master was critically wounded in a freak accident. This news shocked the clan, and her father desperately sought to save her life, when she contracted an illness. Despite the efforts of Progen and the scientists, she was not improving in her condition. In a desperate act, Progen had her moved to his own laboratory, and attempted to transfer her essence and spirit into a new body. ![]() The attempt was a failure, as it only produced an A. Not willing to give up Progen decided to attempt to tap into the power of the Ethos, an act seen by the clan as pure madness. This would lead to an overflow of Essence Energy, resulting in a massive explosion that wiped out most of Mekacity. Against the wishes of his daughter, Progen hunted her clan down to the last man and woman, enslaving their souls and giving rise to various monsters and corrupt essence in his crusade. ![]() ![]() Apparitor, who had always lusted for her touch, betrayed their clan in order to save her, and claim her for himself. To keep her safe, Progen placed the Master in stasis, within a cybernetic life support unit. In Cyber Shadow, trapped within stasis by her father, the Master was unable to pass into the Ethos. As Shadow neared her location she could feel her beloved and tried to reach out with her spirit. It is revealed she's encased in a cybernetic body, unable to escape deep beneath the Space Port. After Shadow defeats Apparitor and frees the Elementals from the Progenitor Machine, Shadow destroys her prison. Happily she looks upon her beloved Shadow once again, before their cybernetic bodies break down. #MEKADRAGON CYBER SHADOW FREE#įinally free from their metallic prisons, the Master, Shadow and her Elemental comrades ascend to the Ethos, ready to serve the Dragon. To say I’m a Yacht Club fanboy is a bit of an understatement. I’ve been a fan since they brought us the first iteration of Shovel Knight, and my respect grew by leaps and bounds with each successive DLC adventure. And I’ve known for a couple weeks they had something new to share. Well, now that something has been revealed, and it’s a retro ninja adventure called Cyber Shadow. To my surprise, it’s not being developed by the team, but instead has been a passion project by Aarne Hunziker for a couple years now. Given Yacht Club’s pedigree for old school wonder, I’m sure they will be the right group to help bring this Ninja Gaiden-inspired tale to fans. The good news is, Cyber Shadow will have a demo available at PAX East. ![]()
